Enemy number 1 - GLUTEN
GLUTEN - Wheat, barley, rye, oats used in its various forms such as flour, bread, nan, roti, croissants, pastries, cakes, cookies, wraps, biscuits, crackers, cereals, porridge, granola bars, doughnuts, danish, crepes, waffles, pancakes, bagels, buns, banana bread, scones, muffins, rusks, pizza flans, samosa rolls, puff pastry, tortillas and yes noodles, ramen, pasta, lasagna, macaroni, spaghetti, semolina, couscous - whole wheat or half wheat. Frozen French fries are dusted with flour to keep them separated, veined cheeses such as blue cheese, stilton, Roquefort and gorgonzola are aged with moldy bread. Brewed drink such as beer, ale, porter are made with barley. Gluten due to its binding nature is also found in crisps, chips, batters, bread crumbs, ready made seasoning, malt vinegar, packed, bottled and canned soups and sauces.
Interestingly we don't need to check for sensitivity, intolerance or allergy. We should simply eliminate GLUTEN by choice because it is so mutated today due to the manner in which it is grown and processed into food. Start with the genetically modified seeds germinating in chemically fertilized soils, protected through chemical fertilizers. In time the plant is knifed and thrashed. Husk and seed stored in sacks for an indefinite period. Once again sprayed with pesticides for protection of the grain, powdered down in machines along with dead insects and parasites, chemically purified and treated to change its color to white and magically cooked or baked, dressed and decorated into beautiful mouth watering delicacies for our consumption.
We shouldn't be surprised that Gluten then affects our intestinal health and consequently all that is in our body. Not only is it affecting our body holistically but also perpetuates the effect. Gluten contains a protein called Gliatin which stimulates the appetite making us crave for more and more processed crabs. Remember cravings are actually brain fog in its simplest form, clinical depression in its extreme form. When our craving is satisfied we have insulin hikes leading to visceral fats and more weight. Not only that, we are exposed to a range of inflammatory diseases, cancer particularly colon cancer, diabetes, arthritis, IBS, celiac disease, thyroid disease, fibromyalgia and dementia. According to some studies a Gluten free diet can also reduce autistic symptoms.
When Gluten is deleted from the diet we may initially feel tired but not to worry, within a week the body will get the message that Gluten isn’t coming in and it will adjust itself without this food. Within three weeks our cravings for Gluten will disappear, gut health will improve, energy levels will escalate, the fogginess in our five senses will improve, the body will be more efficient, athletic performance and stamina will increase, weight will decrease and lo and behold we will feel healthier and happier. At this point I can also add that a Colon cleanse is not necessary. We were not meant to flush water through that route. Drinking a glass of warm water every waking hour will speed up the cleansing process. You can also prepare one cool drink every morning in a liquidizer with a base of Coconut water and pomegranate juice, throw in some chia seeds and noni juice and yes surprisingly wheat grass containing iron, magnesium, calcium, chlorophyll, vitamins A, C and E and amino acids. Remember Gluten is in the kernel or seed of the Wheat plant only not in its shoots or grass! The warming drink each day can be consumed at night and made with a green tea brewed with a piece of Ginger and then liquidized in a machine with a half teaspoon ground Black Cardamom and a half teaspoon of ground zera. One more action breathe deep into the gut at least twice a day for at least five minutes. Inhale and exhale with gusto. Objective achieved — Enemy Number One GLUTEN deleted from the kitchen, the table, the plate and from me - holistically.
Once Gluten is out and even during those first few months we need to replace it with safe starch. Read labels carefully and if possible buy organic food. It is estimated that 95% of prepared foods contains Gluten. Foods can be labeled wheat free but may not be Gluten free. Put your prepared meal on one dinner plate with the plate being 80% full.
